Culinary Life Outtakes: 10 Connoisseur Food Bloggers’ Take on Life, Loves and the Internet

culinary life of 10 food bloggers

FOOD. Unless you are on some kind of dietary or religious fast, food is definitely one thing we all encounter on a daily basis. Whether it is time for breakfast, brunch, lunch, an afternoon tea, dinner, after dinner or a midnight snack… there it is– food! And where is food available – 24/7? Aside from the 24 hr. convenience store in your neighbourhood, where else? But, the Internet! Where you can devour its succulent goodness in food for thought at the click of a button. Oh the irony! Right?

In the succeeding read, you will find 10 diverse Food Connoisseurs whom we consider to be doing the most remarkable job of serving food online 24/7. Let us sneak a peek into the minds and hearts of these 10 writers and find out what it takes to be a “connoisseur”, not only of food ( I later on found out ) but most significantly of life, loves, and staying beautiful inside & out.

I eat healthy therefore I am.

I have been writing since 2010.

My favorite time to write is late afternoon/early evening when the sun is setting and light is streaming into my apartment.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a dancer.

I cannot write when I’m hungry or sleepy.

I cannot live without my family & friends.

If I weren’t a food author & health coach I’d be a dancer.

If I couldn’t reach people through my blog about health & food I would make it my mission to find other ways to connect with people all over the world to spread the word about healthy yummy eating!

I am in love with my husband 😉 also, freshly baked chocolate chip cookies – right out of the oven!

A good meal is balanced, nutritious and so delicious it doesn’t taste like it’s healthy 😉

The Internet should be a place where people connect & share information.

The best ideas are found through recommendations & collaboration.

Life is a box of veggies – colorful, different, each one with a unique flavor!

I have been writing since  age 5.

My favorite time to write is in the middle of the afternoon.

When I was a kid I wanted to be an actress.

I cannot write when I am upset.

I cannot live without chocolate.

If I weren’t a food writer I’d (still) be a software engineer.

The former self proclaimed “retiree” now back in the game of working outside the home, combines rhyme with reason to please our taste buds.

I  bake therefore I am.

I have been writing since  I was in middle school. It has always been important to me to play with words and capture my thoughts through the process of writing. Even if it’s just a quick journal entry, and especially on paper (yes, i’m “old school”). I feel better when I write regularly .

My favorite time to write is when my children are asleep and the house is completely silent; often, this ends up being somewhere around midnight. It is a magical hour.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a dance teacher, a pediatrician, a lawyer… my dreams changed often. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up. Or if I even want to grow up at all.

I cannot write when my children are fighting with each other. I cannot even think then. I imagine many parents struggle with the same problem.

I cannot live without cheese. Cheddar, parmesan, dubliner, chevre, boursin… it doesn’t matter which form it comes in. Cheese completes me.

If I weren’t a baker I’d be a lot more stressed out. Baking is cathartic for me.

If I couldn’t taste food I would probably wither away. What’s the point of eating if it isn’t to enjoy the handsprings & backflips taste buds go through in the process?

I am in love with bacon. Who isn’t? It’s a bit cliché, but bacon is also extremely versatile.

A good meal is simple. You don’t need to make an extravagant display if the flavors work well together. Less is more.

The internet should be free for all. It’s becoming an essential tool in life; what’s with charging people $50/month for it? 😉

The best ideas are found everywhere, if your eyes & ears are open. Don’t rush through the world– experience it. You never know where your next best idea will come from. Often, the most unexpected places are ripe with them.

Life is a box of oozy cheese. It may smell a bit funky at first, and you’re not quite sure if you can trust it, but when you build up the courage to face it head on, the rewards are immense.

The fun girl’s guide to having it all has all the fun for half the calories.

I believe therefore I am.

I have been writing technical work for business & simple communications since 2002. But only & professionally on the topic of anything health related since 2008 when I began working on “SkinnyTinis”– all fun for half the calories.

My favorite time to write is when I’m drunk in an airplane. Ha! But it’s true, a few glasses of wine always make the words come out easier and airplanes are typically distraction free making it easy to focus. There is nowhere else you can be and very little more you can be doing.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a teacher. My father, who taught 35 years, actually discouraged me from the field during college. Stating I likely didn’t have enough patience. I think he was right. So I’ve settled in the consulting role, which has suited me well.

I cannot write when I have too much on my mind, or I feel fat. I choose to run. Then I write.

I cannot live without love & support from friends & family. I’d definitely die on a deserted island of loneliness before starvation. I can turn almost anything into a delicious, nutritious meal.

If I weren’t a nutritionist I’d be a personal trainer. Helping people find the best versions of themselves through health & fitness is my passion.

If I couldn’t run I would cry. And I did for 4 months as i recovered from a stress fracture in 2012.

I am in love with my boyfriend & my cats, Sam & Sophie, wine, my friends, my family, my running shoes, my Garmin, my Macbook Air. There’s a lot of love in my life, for which, I am truly grateful.

A good meal is full of color. Natural phytonutrients fuel the body and rule the palate.

The internet should be as it is. Human nature needs to evolve.

The best ideas are found where no one else is looking.

Life is a box of adventures, challenges, heartaches and victories.

I have been writing since I was a little kid.

My favorite time to write is in the late evening.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a lawyer and secretly a movie or a rockstar (but who didn’t?!).

I cannot write when there is too much noise or I’m tired.

I cannot live without a good night’s sleep, chocolate, pug & husband snuggles.

If I weren’t a person that needed their sleep I’d be a baker.

If I couldn’t cook I would go back to playing music.

I am in love with my husband of course!

A good meal is found anywhere. On the street or at a 4 star restaurant.

The internet should be able to come with the option of smell.

The best ideas are found where you least expect them. Talk to people, ask questions and always bounce your ideas off friends.

Life is a box of chocolate peanut butter cups.

A holistic nutrition educator helping individuals achieve health & wellness one pantry principle at a time.

breathe therefore I am.

I have been writing since I was a kid. I spent many many many years trying to write fiction that never got anywhere. Then I began to write non-fiction and then in my 40’s I found a passion for food and began to write about that. I’ve been going ever since.

My favorite time to write is early in the morning when it’s peaceful and quiet.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a veterinary geneticist.

I cannot write when there’s too much going on around me.

I cannot live without family, friends and good food. A nice vacation once in a while doesn’t hurt either.

If I weren’t a nutrition educator I’d be a hmmmm… I was a database administrator and really liked that. I was good at it and it was enjoyable. But I didn’t realize how passionate one could be about a vocation until I found nutrition. But if I weren’t doing what I’m doing now I’d probably be working with data.

If I couldn’t sing I would write – silly answer I admit. I don’t sing well. I think we often spend a lot of time worrying about the things we don’t do well rather than trying to either grow that skill or to accept that we have other gifts and talents.

I am in love with life.

A good meal is prepared with good ingredients, made with love & shared.

The Internet should be considered a tool. I try to take un-tech breaks as it’s too easy to get sucked into the endless feed of information & entertainment. We need more nature breaks, more barefoot in the dirt moments, more face-to-face connection/conversation with people in our lives.

The best ideas are found anywhere; ideas & inspiration are all around us if we are willing to be open to the opportunity.

Life is a box of kale chips – green, tasty, you can flavor it however you want, easy to share.
